Better News recently featured the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for a project the paper modeled after lessons learned in our UNC-Knight Foundation Table Stakes Newsroom Initiative.
The newspaper used a “mini-publisher” model to form a group of nearly 15 people from their marketing, advertising and news teams to create an “Art from the Heart” feature, which published drawings from children to thank essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. A participant in our 2019-2020 cohort, the AJC credited their Table Stakes learnings for the idea.
The project generated $35,000 in advertising revenue while engaging readers in the news outlet’s COVID-19 coverage and earning more than 50,000 page views online.
