Project Oasis mentioned in article about The New York Times’ call for local news support

This Poynter article by Kristen Hare spotlights an online campaign recently launched by The New York Times encouraging people to support their local newsrooms.

The campaign, launched ahead of World Press Freedom day, combines the members of several organizations of both for-profit and nonprofit local newsrooms around the country and asks people to search for newsrooms near them.

A searchable database allows users to locate and find ways to support their local media outlets.

The article gives a shout out to Project Oasis, a dynamic new partnership among the UNC Center for Innovation and Sustainability for Local Media, Google News Initiative and LION Publishers to identify, share and implement the best practices that help local digital news models get started and succeed.

Project Oasis aims to track most digital outlets in North America.
