Dean Susan King on Charlotte Talks: Revitalizing American Journalism

Dean Susan King

Susan King, the dean of the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media, recently joined Report for America’s president and co-founder Steve Waldman, as well as Report for America journalist Alexandra Watts for a discussion about the future of local news on Charlotte Talks, a program on the Charlotte NPR station WFAE.

“There is a passion, there is a dynamism, there is a change. We’re in a moment of real transition,” King said of the current local news climate during the discussion, noting innovative Hussman research such as Penny Abernathy’s groundbreaking news deserts work and training programs like the UNC-Knight Foundation Table Stakes Newsroom Initiative working to document and provide solutions for local news.
